The Price of Pride

Alejandro had always been a man of contradictions—capable of convincing the world it was raining under a blazing sun. Years ago, I had fallen for him through a series of secret emails, pouring my heart into words I was too afraid to speak aloud. I loved him with a desperation that bordered on worship, but when the time came to face the reality of our connection, I retreated. I let fear dictate my silence, leaving him with a void where a relationship should have been.

Years later, I arrived in the capital, desperate for work to support my family. I walked into a towering corporate office for an interview, my heart hammering against my ribs. When I looked up, there he was. Alejandro sat behind the mahogany desk, his eyes cold and distant. There was no warmth, only a sharp, professional cruelty. He dismissed me instantly, citing my inadequate attire, but the look in his eyes told me the truth: he hadn’t forgotten the girl who had played with his heart.

The tension between us reached a breaking point the following morning. I was in my bathrobe, barely awake, when he appeared at my door. He threw my shredded resume at my feet, a physical manifestation of his contempt. But as he stepped inside the apartment, the aggression shifted. He pinned me against the wall, his breath hot against my skin, and kissed me with a hunger that felt like a collision. It was a kiss born of years of resentment and repressed longing.

The air grew thick with a dangerous electricity. He tore open my robe, his eyes widening as he saw me fully for the first time. His touch was a storm—sometimes tender, sometimes demanding. He swept me onto the sofa, his body heavy and commanding over mine. I felt a dizzying conflict; I hated his cruelty, yet my body betrayed me, arching toward the man I had loved in secret for a lifetime.

When he entered me, it wasn’t with the gentleness of a lover, but with the intensity of a man reclaiming something he believed was stolen from him. Every thrust was a statement of power, a release of years of frustration. We collided in a feverish haze of skin and sweat, a raw, animalistic encounter that left me breathless and trembling. In the aftermath, the cruelty returned. He whispered that others were better in bed, a final jab to ensure I felt small before he walked out of my life once more.

Four years have passed since that storm. I now have a son, Gustavito, who is the living image of his father—the same piercing eyes, the same stubborn chin. Recently, Alejandro called, claiming he wanted to meet the boy. I looked at my son and felt a surge of protective love. Alejandro had spent years trying to break me, but the ultimate lesson in consequence is this: he will never know the son he created. That is the price he must pay.
