The Glass Exhibition
The hotel room in the heart of the European city was a sanctuary of minimalist luxury, dominated by a floor-to-ceiling window that looked out over a narrow, cobblestone street. Across the way, a residential building stood close enough that the lives of its inhabitants were on full display. The bed was pushed right against the glass, creating a precarious boundary between their private intimacy and the public eye.
The tension had been building since dinner. A shared gin and tonic and the sight of a brazenly affectionate trio in a dimly lit pub had left them both humming with an electric, restless energy. By the time they entered the room, the air was thick with anticipation. They stripped each other with urgent, hungry kisses, the fabric of their clothes falling in heaps on the hardwood floor.
He reached over and clicked off the lights, plunging the room into a velvet darkness, but he pulled the curtains wide open. In the shadows, they explored each other, their breaths hitching as they fantasized about the possibility of being watched. Mar was already trembling, her skin flushed. Seeing an orange silk scarf draped over a nearby chair, he grabbed it and gently tied it around her eyes, blinding her and heightening every other sense.
He guided her to her knees on the bed, inches from the cold glass. Then, with a sudden click, he flipped the light switch. Mar gasped, the bright light filtering through the fabric of the blindfold. He didn’t tell her that the apartments across the street were glowing with warm, yellow light; in this part of Northern Europe, curtains were a rarity. He could see silhouettes moving in the opposite building—people living their lives, completely unaware or perhaps acutely aware of the scene unfolding in the hotel room.
He stood her up and pressed her against the window. The cool glass felt shocking against her warm, bare breasts. “Can anyone see us?” she whispered, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and arousal. He didn’t answer, letting the uncertainty fuel her fire. Mar began to touch herself, one hand working rhythmically while the other remained pressed high against the pane, her nipples flattening against the transparent barrier.
He watched the building opposite. In one bedroom, the light flickered and died, but for a moment, he thought he saw two silhouettes lingering by the window, staring back at them. The thought sent a jolt of adrenaline through him. When Mar begged for him, he stepped behind her, gripping her hips and sliding into her with a seamless, deep thrust.
Mar pressed both palms against the glass, arching her back. She was completely exposed—to the twenty glowing windows across the street, to the pedestrians below, to the world. “Harder, faster!” she urged, her voice louder than he had ever heard it. “Tell me someone is watching! Tell me they can see me!” He leaned in, whispering that it was almost certain someone was captivated by her beauty in that very moment.
Just as she reached the peak of her excitement, he reached forward and untied the knot of the orange scarf. As the blindfold fell, the sight of the neighboring windows and the proximity of the street hit her all at once. The visual confirmation of their vulnerability pushed her over the edge. She cried out, her body shuddering in a powerful release, followed immediately by a second, more intense wave. He followed her shortly after, their shared breath fogging the glass that had turned their passion into a silent, urban performance.
