Waiting in Line
The pre-dawn air was thick with exhaustion and the scent of asphalt. At four in the morning, I had arrived at the outskirts of the city, joining a stagnant line of cars waiting for a fuel tanker that seemed like a myth. I had fallen into a deep, heavy sleep in the backseat of my father’s car, only to be jolted awake by a sharp rap on the window.
When I opened my eyes, I felt my breath catch. Standing there was a man who looked like a god carved from ebony and cinnamon. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and possessed a gaze that seemed to pierce right through me. He informed me, with a smirk, that two cars ahead had left and it was time to move up. I was groggy and irritable, but as we began to talk, the tension shifted from annoyance to an electric, undeniable attraction.
He called me bebe in a teasing, mocking tone that made my blood boil and my heart race simultaneously. We sat in the humid morning air, the world around us disappearing as the chemistry between us ignited, turning a mundane wait into a moment of pure, unfiltered desire.
