The Chemistry of First Love
In the halls of our high school, I was the outlier. Clad in black and immersed in heavy metal, I existed on the fringes. Then there was Luis Arturo. He was an athletic star, effortlessly handsome and widely adored. Yet, for reasons I couldn’t fathom, he saw past my gothic armor. He became the one person who didn’t treat my identity as a punchline.
The shift happened during our senior year when Luis struggled in chemistry. Our teacher suggested a peer tutor, and Luis approached me. He asked for my help, suggesting we study at his house after school. I agreed, though I felt a flicker of hesitation.
As the weeks passed, the tutoring sessions evolved. The textbooks became background noise to the electric tension building between us. One rainy Tuesday, while explaining covalent bonds, our eyes locked. The air grew heavy with an unspoken longing. Luis reached out, his hand grazing my cheek, and pulled me into a kiss that tasted of rain and desperation. In that moment, the social divide vanished, leaving only the raw, pulsing chemistry of two souls finally finding their match.
