The Ghost of September
It began on a rain-slicked afternoon in September. I had sought shelter under a narrow awning, my coat heavy with water, when she appeared. She was a vision of dark hair and lips as red as a dying sunset. I remember the way the raindrops clung to her skin like tiny diamonds, and how her dark eyes seemed to pierce through the veil of my soul. When she smiled, it was a complex tapestry of longing and passion that left me breathless.
Without a word, she stepped closer, the scent of exotic blooms trailing behind her. She leaned in and kissed me—a touch so tender it felt like a falling snowflake, yet it ignited a volcanic fire in my chest. In that singular moment of ecstasy, I felt the world dissolve. But as quickly as she had arrived, she vanished into the gray mist of the rain, leaving me shivering and consumed by a feverish desire I could not name.
Days passed in a blur of longing. I returned to that same awning every afternoon, praying for the return of the woman who had stolen my breath. I didn’t know who she was or where she had gone, but the ghost of her kiss remained, a permanent brand upon my heart that whispered of a love that transcended the boundaries of the physical world.
