The Secret Journey
The train ride was grueling, a five-hour trek through the Spanish countryside in aging carriages. I was twenty-five, traveling for work, seated in a small compartment with four others. Among them was a young man, barely nineteen, with expressive eyes and a quiet intensity that seemed to mirror my own restlessness.
As the journey stretched on, a heavy tension settled between us. I noticed him stealing glances at me, his eyes lingering on the lines of my body. In those days, such desires were dangerous, whispered secrets that could lead to prison under the harsh laws of the regime. Yet, the shared silence between us felt like a conversation of its own.
Seeking a moment of reprieve, I stepped into the narrow corridor to smoke. Moments later, he joined me. We started with trivialities—the weather, the delays—but the air was thick with unspoken hunger. He spoke of his loneliness, and I felt a sudden, magnetic pull toward him. In the dim light of the corridor, our hands brushed, a spark of electricity igniting between us that defied the laws of the land and the risks of the moment.
