Holidaying at the Ravenclaw hotel
"How many miles to the hotel Yvette?" I ask my fiancée who's head is buried in the map.
"If we're on the correct road than about twenty five" she replied "If we hadn't taken the wrong turn-off on the motorway we'd have arrived by now Dan".
Yvette and I had been engaged for about nine months and had decided to take a holiday on the Northumberland coast. We had booked into a Georgian hotel that had advertised on a tourist website for the county.
It was cheaper than the others and Yvette was attracted to the architecture of the hotel being an architect herself.
"There's a storm coming" says Yvette staring at the blackening sky "Nice if we can arrive before the clouds open"......
Nearing the hotel the wind was so powerful it was making the car sway and as it began to tip down thunder clapped in the distance. As we drove past the promenade the waves were crashing and not a soul was about.
Pulling into the hotel driveway a flash of lightning illuminated the hotel. A large building with an arched doorway, columns along the front and sash windows. It hadn't been decorated in some time and as I park the car Yvette says "What a lovely hotel".
As used in a Hammer horror movie" I reply and she smacks my arm.
I grab the suitcases as Yvette rushes across to the hotel entrance and as I bring the cases I see her knock on the door with the cast iron knocker.
When the door opens a lady in her fifties, about 5ft3, long brown hair wearing a satin blouse and a black skirt says "Welcome to the Ravenclaw hotel. I'm Geraldine and my husband Peter and we own this wonderful place".
She closes the door and we follow her over to the wooden counter and sign the register.
"Lovely to have a young attractive couple staying at our hotel" said Geraldine as she passed Yvette the door key "Your room is up the stairs and along the hallway to the left. We haven't anyone to carry your cases as Roger our porter is assisting Peter with his studies".
After carrying the cases upstairs we reached our room and Yvette opened the door. The room was decorated with blue flock wallpaper and old paintings hung on the walls. The bed was large and the frame was dark oak.
Putting the suitcases down Yvette and I unpacked then as we sat on the bed feeling worn out we heard a loud bang and Yvette said "Dinner gong".
Heading out of our room she said "didn't get time to change".
