Mountain Blush: A Summer Secret

Wow, Lisa – You were so right – this place is awesome! That’s a gorgeous view!

Lisa certainly didn’t disagree, and it had been one reason for asking Marie if they could borrow their house. She and Tami, a co-worker, had been tasked to plan the upcoming summer picnic for the hospital where they all worked. All the better to do it in a place that was pleasant, and the deck on the back of Stan and Marie’s house overlooking the rolling fields fit the bill. The snow-capped Rocky Mountains in the far east seemed etched against an azure blue sky, and in sharp contrast to the surrounding lush green wheat fields. Even better was the field in the ravine separating their home from the farm office, which was stationed on the next hill over. It had been her husband’s idea to try the flowers. He’d said it would be a risk, but even if they made nothing on them, they at least looked nice, the brilliant purple color another contrast to the green wheat.

“And those flowers – cool!”

Setting her notebook down by one of the deck chairs, Lisa returned to the house to bring out the snacks and iced tea. When she returned Tami was looking across the ravine to the farm office.

“Is that where your husband works?”

“Yep.”

“All by himself?”

“No, Melissa works out there too on the bookkeeping. It’s just the two of them.”

“Seems so close.”

“Until you try walking from here to there!”

“He could probably see us if he has binoculars,” Tami laughed.

Actually, he did have binoculars. It had been a birthday gift she’d given him a couple years back. It had been a very practical gift, given the location of the office relative to the rest of the farm, and had had the side benefit of giving him a glimpse into the mountains he loved. She didn’t know if he happened to point them occasionally toward the house! “I guess he could,” she grinned, removing her robe to feel the warmth of the sun against her skin. ‘I hope he does,’ she didn’t say, briefly appraising the gorgeous figure she knew he adored. She’d know about it later if he did sneak a peek!

“Hey there – I’d say you’d blend right in with the flowers!”

Whether a purple bikini would hide her amongst the flowers, she didn’t know, but it did give Lisa a giggle. That, as it happened, was a gift from her best friend, Marie, once she learned what color the flowers were going to be. “I’m afraid not,” she laughed. “Too much white skin.” It happened every winter as her summer tan faded away.

“Yeah… not like Marie, huh? Good grief, that girl is like a walking tanning machine. How does she do it?”

“Genetics,” Lisa said simply. “Hey, you look nice, too!” Quite nice, actually, the snug black bikini fitting Tami like a glove and matching the color of her sunglasses. If her husband took time away from his work today, maybe he’d finally figure out that there were more lovely things to look at than the mountains! And speaking of mountains… She grinned to herself as she glanced at her friend’s wonderfully endowed chest and wondered if they had recently ‘grown.’

“Thanks!” Sitting down in her deck chair, Tami laid back, likewise enjoying the sun’s warmth.

“I bet Robert would give a lot to have some binoculars right about now,” Lisa smiled.

“That’s exactly what I don’t need!” Tami guffawed.

“Oh, c’mon,” Lisa giggled. “You know he likes you.”

“Robert the ‘blobert?’ I hadn’t noticed.” It was a fib, of course, and both knew it.

“He’s not a blob, he’s just – ”

“Okay, a slob then.”

“Well, whatever he is, he – ”

“Not interested.”

‘Blobert’ hadn’t yet worked up the courage to approach Tami, and evidently he was in for a disappointment if or when he did. “Well… there’s always Darren – ”

“He has a kid.”

“Allie? She’s a little sweety pie! But he’d just be looking for someone to be a ‘mom,’ and I’m not ready for that. And besides, he’s always tripping over his tongue every time he looks in your direction.”

Lisa giggled. That was true enough, though she wouldn’t admit it out loud. ‘I hope he does,’ she didn’t say, briefly appraising the gorgeous figure she knew he adored. She’d know about it later if he did sneak a peek!

“Thanks!” Tami winked. Sitting down in her deck chair, Tami laid back, likewise enjoying the sun’s warmth.
